APS now assigns a unique DOI to each experiment

DOIs at APS

APS DOI Information for Users
Acknowledging the APS

The Department of Energy (DOE) requires that all publications resulting from experiments or work done at the Advanced Photon Source (APS) must acknowledge the APS and must be reported in the  APS Publications Database.

The APS now assigns a unique digital object identifier (DOI) for each experiment conducted at the APS. Users can find their DOIs on the “My DOI” tab in the APS User Portal. Beginning with the 2025-2 user run, the APS will send an email with the DOI number to everyone on the experimental safety assessment form (ESAF) when the ESAF is posted.

To help us maintain a comprehensive record about research conducted at the APS in the publications database, users whose research results in publication should reference the beam time award DOI number(s) in hyperlink format (example: https://doi.org/10.1000/182) in the publication that references their experiment.

The format is as follows:

“This research was performed on APS beam time award(s) (DOI: ) from the Advanced Photon Source, a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science user facility operated for the DOE Office of Science by Argonne National Laboratory under Contract No. DE-AC02-06CH11357.”

You can read the full policy (Reporting User Publications to the APS) and get more detailed information about acknowledgements, such as those related to BES APS Ops funding, LDRD funds and resources provided by collaborative access teams and/or their staff, on the APS website.
