Note: As of Run 2010-1, BioCARS is using the APS scheduling system for scheduling user beamtime. To submit the trip information for your scheduled beamtime, please follow the link in your beamtime confirmation or ESAF reminder e-mails or login to the APS scheduling system.
Applying for Beamtime
All users of BioCARS beamlines are APS General Users and must apply for beamtime by submitting a proposal (or a beamtime request [BTR] on an existing proposal) through the APS General User Program (GUP). Proposals or beamtime requests can be done either as regular submissions prior to the APS deadline for each run cycle or as rapid access submissions on a continuous basis. To be considered for beamtime at BioCARS, please request beamline 14-ID-B or 14-BM-C as your first choice when submitting a proposal or BTR. For more information about the APS GUP, check the program's FAQ and instructions. Step-by-step instructions for becoming a user are at our Application for Beamtime page.
Preparing for Allocated Beamtime
Users will be notified by e-mail about the beamtime allocation for their proposed experiments at BioCARS. Please follow the instructions on the Application for Beamtime page to prepare for your visit to APS and BioCARS. Before the experiment can begin, the spokesperson for the experiment must complete the Experimental Safety Assessment Form (ESAF) by using the link provided in the beamtime confirmation or ESAF reminder e-mails or by logging in to the APS scheduling system. Please follow proper shipping methods to transport samples to/from APS. For more information on BioCARS facilities, please visit the facilities page. For information on traveling to APS, see Visiting the APS.
